The Mayflower compact

The Mayflower Compact was a written agreement that the pilgrims created on the Mayflower in 1620. they traveled on a ship called the Mayflower whiched anchored in what is now Princeton Harbor in Cape Codm Massachusetts. It was made up of fair and equal laws. The Mayflower passengers knew that the pilgrims that went to the new world before because the lack of government. They composed the Mayflower Compact for the sake of their own survival. The 41 male members on the Mayflower the compact. It was the first written laws for the new world. It determined the authority of the settlement. The establishment, mainly made up of Separatists, were going to be free of English laws. The document talks about the principles of self-government and majority rule amoung the pilgrims. The document had to be approved in London before being legal. The Mayflower Compact started the beginning of democratic ideas in the New England colonies. The original documents. It remained a basic political document until the annexation of Plymouth by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1691. The reason the signers signed the document was because they thought that the covenants shouldn't only be honored by God and men but with each other. They had always honored as part of their religious integrity. John Adams and many other historians reffered the Mayflower Compact as the foundation of the U.S. constitution. They lived their lives with honesty, reliability, and fairness. It was first published in 1622. It wasn't originally called the Mayflower Compact, it was called "an association and agreement" by William Bradford, "Solemn Cotract by Thomas Prince, and "The Covenant" by Rev. Charles Turner.
